What is a residential rehab centre?

A residential rehab centre is somewhere that a person with a substance addiction can go to receive treatment. For substance addictions, such as alcohol and drugs, medicated detox is often required. A residential rehab clinic is generally considered the best place to have a detox. This is because there are medical and professional staff available around the clock to supervise safe detox, ensure the individual is as comfortable as possible and provide appropriate support during what can be an uncomfortable and unsafe experience without the right treatment and care. A residential rehab centre also offers a comprehensive and structured therapeutic programme to help address the psychological dependence to a substance or behavioural pattern. A residential rehab clinic will focus on both physical and psychological dependence.

A residential rehab centre is often the preferred option for treating addictions. Community or out-patient treatments provide therapeutic support; however an intensive period of time spent living with peers and having constant access to professional help is likely to lead to a better outcome long term.

The benefits of residential rehab centres are supported in a number of research studies, the National Treatment Outcomes Research Study (NTORS) demonstrated that although residential rehab and community-based treatments had comparable outcomes, a residential rehabilitation centre tended to address individuals with much more serious patterns of addiction. Indicating that residential rehab may have a higher level of effectiveness when addressing cases beyond mild dependence.

The majority of residential rehab centres will cater for all alcohol and drug addictions. Call us now on 0845 888 4444to find out how the centres we work alongside can help you or your loved one. When should someone seek a residential rehab centre?

You should find out about residential rehab clinics when you suspect you or your loved one is addicted to a drug. You should also give a residential rehab clinic serious consideration when previous community treatment methods have been unsuccessful.

There are a number of ways for you to decide whether your loved one has a drug addiction. There may be noticeable behavioural or mood changes, such as agitation, secrecy and deception. Their behaviour may become very unpredictable. Their sleep may be disturbed and they may appear continuously unwell. You may also find drug paraphernalia amongst their possessions, such as cigarette papers, needles and small weighing scales.

Withdrawal symptoms are also a good indicator of a drug dependence (Trathen et al., 2008). Alcohol withdrawal symptoms include sweating, increased heart rate, tremors, difficulty sleeping, feeling nauseas and vomiting, hallucinations, agitation, anxiety and seizures. Opiate withdrawal symptoms include a depressive mood, diarrhoea, vomiting, chills, insomnia, agitation and muscle ache. Amphetamine and cocaine withdrawal symptoms include a depressive mood, tiredness, increased or decreased time spent sleeping, bad dreams and increased appetite.

Types of residential rehab clinic

There are residential rehab clinics throughout the UK.  It is important that you recognize what to look out for when searching for the most suitable private residential rehabilitation centre. It is a legal requirement that all rehab residential rehabilitation centres are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This allows individuals to see whether residential rehabilitation centres meet the standards set out by the CQC. Triage Healthcare only works with private residential rehabs which abide by CQC regulations.

You or your loved one can also access a private residential rehabilitation centre overseas.  This option can be particularly appealing to those individuals who have already accessed treatment in the UK with limited success. By travelling overseas the person is completely removed from their problematic surroundings.

If private treatment is not affordable, it may be possible to access a residential rehab centre through free NHS services. Whilst it would clearly be preferable to access a drug treatment centre without having to pay for it, it is important to remember that there is an imbalance between availability of addiction treatment in the NHS and the demand in the community. Therefore, there can often be long waiting lists involved. This is one of the reasons why private drug centres are typically the preferred option.

How long could detox treatment for a drug addiction take?

A detox in a residential rehab centre UK for a drug dependence typically takes around two weeks and one week for alcohol dependence. However, the longer you can stay in a residential rehabilitation center, the better. Residential rehabilitation clinics typically recommend a minimum of a four weeks for an alcohol dependence or six weeks for a drug dependence.

How much does a residential rehab clinic cost?

Triage Healthcare recognises that there is a deficit in the provision of affordable private treatment for addictions in the UK. High quality free advice and information is provided to all, as well as best-value private treatment to individuals with a limited budget. If you arrange admission through Triage Healthcare you will never pay more and in some cases you will pay less for residential treatment than by booking direct with a treatment centre. Call Triage Healthcare to discuss the option most likely to result in success for you or your loved one.
